The Artist

Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, in 1971, Max Steven Grossman's creative journey began in an unexpected field: textile engineering. After graduating from Philadelphia University in 1994, he began working at a textile mill, where the discovery of a camera sparked a newfound passion for photography. That chance discovery would ultimately change the course of his career, leading him to earn a Master of Arts through NYU  and the International Center of Photography in 2000.

His background in textile engineering introduced him to a world of intricate patterns, textures, and structures—elements that find an intriguing parallel in his photographic compositions. Combining technical precision with artistic imagination, Grossman creates works that challenge conventional perceptions of reality.

Max Steven Grossman's photography moves between observation and imagination, exploring the world as it exists and the possibilities of what it could become. His work reflects a fascination with structure, composition, and the unexpected relationships between seemingly unrelated subjects.

In some series, he captures the natural beauty of remote landscapes or the geometry of architecture. In others, he reimagines familiar environments, creating libraries that exist only in photographs, placing unexpected objects along quiet coastlines, or introducing trees into Antarctic landscapes where they could never naturally survive.
